Phase noise of electro-optic dual frequency combs

چکیده
Dual frequency combs are emerging as new tools for spectroscopy and signal processing. The relative phase noise of the tone pairs determines performance (e.g., signal-to-noise ratio) detected spectral components. Although previous research has shown that quality generally degrades with an increase in difference between pairs, scaling dual comb systems not been fully characterized. In this Letter, we model characterize a coherent electro-optic system. Our results show at high offset frequencies, is incoherent sum timing two combs, multiplied by line number. At low however, scales more slowly due to coherence common reference.

Electro-optic dual-comb vibrometry
We use an ultrafast electro-optic dual comb interferometer to perform single-point vibrometry on the submillisecond time scale. As an example, we resolve the vibration of an ultrasound speaker driven at 50 kHz, achieving a sub-nanometer axial resolution through a measurement of the optical phase carrier. متن کاملFast Interrogation of Fiber Bragg Gratings with Electro-Optical Dual Optical Frequency Combs
Optical frequency combs (OFC) generated by electro-optic modulation of continuous-wave lasers provide broadband coherent sources with high power per line and independent control of line spacing and the number of lines. In addition to their application in spectroscopy, they offer flexible and optimized sources for the interrogation of other sensors based on wavelength change or wavelength filter...
متن کاملNoise-induced linewidth in frequency combs.
Frequency combs generated by trains of pulses emitted from mode-locked lasers are analyzed when the center time and phase of the pulses undergo noise-induced random walk, which broadens the comb lines. Asymptotic analysis and computation reveal that, when the standard deviation of the center-time jitter of the nth pulse scales as n(p/2) where p is a jitter exponent, the linewidth of the kth com...

A new physical mechanism is proposed for generating transient phase gratings in transparent pyroelectric materials. The mechanism combines the pyroelectric and electro-optic effects to convert spatial intensity variations into transient phase gratings. The grating diffraction efficiency increases with a figure of merit that is proportional to the pyroelectric, electro-optic, and absorption coef...
متن کاملOptical Frequency Combs: From Frequency Metrology to Optical Phase Control
The merging of continuous wave laser-based precision optical-frequency metrology with mode-locked ultrafast lasers has led to precision control of the visible and near-infrared frequency spectrum produced by mode-locked lasers. Such a phase-controlled mode-locked laser forms the foundation of a “femtosecond optical-frequency comb generator” with a regular comb of sharp lines with well-defined f...
